How to Start a Skincare Routine

If engaging in a skincare routine is a brand new idea for you, you’ve probably asked yourself, “How can I start a skincare routine?” Another question is, “Where do I start?”

The general rule to get started with your own skincare routine is to use a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Still, there’s more to taking care of your skin than simply applying those products. In this article, we’re going to elaborate these applications into steps as your guide.

Step 1: Wash your face.

Whether you’re just getting ready for the day in the morning or you’re about to settle on your bed at night, it’s essential that you wash your face first. Before you do anything else, this step is always the first thing you do in a skincare routine. Rinse your face with clean water and put a small amount of gentle cleanser on your hand. Rub the liquid between your palms and gently massage it over your face. Rinse your face thoroughly to ensure you’ve removed any remnants of the cleanser. Get a soft towel and pat your face to dry.

Step 2: Apply your toner.

Next up in our basic skincare routine is the application of toner. People put toners on in two different ways: using their palms or a cotton pad. Either way, just tap a few drops on the pad or your palm and swipe it across your face. Let your face dry before proceeding to the following skincare routine step.

Step 3: Apply your moisturizer.

Moisturizers are best to apply at the last of your routine because it keeps the compounds of products you just used and lock them in. It’s also great for your skin's hydration, especially if you have a dry skin type. You can put on a lightweight moisturizer in the morning and a thicker one at night.

If you’re just getting around the idea of adopting a skincare routine, the steps we showed you above are definitely the ways to start! Once you get your groove on these basics, you can begin adding steps to your routine.
